Nichols Heir and The Trillium are strongest for couples who want expansive Smoky Mountain views. Ayoka Ranch gives you rolling hills, ponds, and a more open countryside setting. The Julianna feels intimate and garden-focused rather than panoramic. Waterstone surrounds you with quarry walls, water, and a waterfall, while The Quarry delivers historic marble and a moodier architectural landscape. Howe Farms gives you the most variety, with fields, waterfront areas, barns, and several distinct venue styles across one property.

Think about whether you want the view to feel wide and dramatic, private and enclosed, architectural, garden-inspired, or full of variety. Those experiences photograph very differently, even when every venue technically checks the “scenic” box.

My Favorite Luxury East Tennessee Wedding Venues

Ahhh! Ok, now we’re onto the fun stuff! Here are my tried and true East Tennessee venues that are sooooo luxurious, they make me want to get married all over again.

The Julianna

The Julianna is proof that luxury doesn’t have to mean huge and formal. What was originally a horse stable has been thoughtfully transformed into a romantic garden estate, and that history still shows up in the best way, restored instead of covered over. Crystal chandeliers and a dual-sided fireplace anchor the newly renovated Reception Hall, while a blooming garden and fully refurbished stables give you two completely different ceremony backdrops without ever leaving the property.

What makes The Julianna feel different from the rest of the East Tennessee wedding venues is the scale. It caps out at 100 guests and keeps the day intimate instead of stretched thin. The bridal suite (hair and makeup bar included, because priorities) gives your morning the same unhurried feeling as the rest of the day, and if you want to turn your wedding into a full weekend, the on-site Farmhouse sleeps up to 10 guests, which means your closest people can stay right there with you instead of driving in the next morning.

Guest Count:

100 wedding guests, 10 overnight guests

Amenities:

• 6,000-square-foot reception hall with a dual-sided fireplace.

• On-site Farmhouse that sleeps up to 10 guests for weekend stays.

What to Know:

The Julianna is an especially strong fit for couples keeping the guest list intentional. If you’re planning for 150 or more people, the intimate scale that makes it feel so special may also be the reason it isn’t the right venue. From a photography standpoint, the garden, stables, and Reception Hall give you noticeably different backdrops without requiring long transitions or pulling you away from your guests.

The Waterstone

The Waterstone is a venue that will give you a wow moment. The ceremony space sits inside a 60-year-old rock quarry with towering stone walls, a pond, green turf that stays photo-ready all year round, and a 70-foot waterfall that comes on 2 hours before your ceremony (yes, they time it just for you!) It’s dramatic but lived in, and there are so many good angles tucked in that we don’t have to disappear during your cocktail hour to find them.

Waterstone also has some of the most memorable overnight suites that double as getting-ready spaces, including a modern hobbit house overlooking the waterfall and a reclaimed-lumber treehouse. Where else can you find that?? This venue only hosts one event per day, which gives you complete privacy and zero chance of running into someone with your same dress. This is a great fit if you want something bold and immersive but completely different from the classic ballroom or a barn wedding.

Location:

11 Journey Place, Johnson City

Guest Count:

200 guests in The Tent, 170 in the Rock Gallery, 10 overnight guests

Amenities:

• They only host one wedding a day, so you get total privacy.
• Choose from two reception options, indoor and outdoor.
• They handle all of the setup and teardown for anything the venue provides.
• 3 separate suites to choose from for getting ready.
• Pets are allowed during the ceremony.
• 2 on-site suites for overnight guests + a honeymoon suite.

What to Know:

The quarry setting is one of Waterstone’s biggest advantages, but it also gives the venue a very specific visual personality. If you want a completely blank backdrop you can transform in any direction, this may feel more design-forward than flexible. I’d also ask exactly how the ceremony experience changes during rain and how guests move between the suites, ceremony area, and reception spaces.

The Quarry

The Quarry sits inside a historic marble quarry in West Knoxville, the same pink marble that earned Knoxville the nickname “The Marble City.” Towering rock walls rise up around the ceremony space, and the whole space still feels like the industry that built it, in the best way. It’s a completely different kind of drama than Waterstone’s fairytale water feature. This one leans darker and more industrial, moody instead of magical.

For the indoor reception, the Carrara gives you 6,000 square feet of heated and cooled space with an industrial finish that photographs like nothing else in the region. The venue also comes with an event coordinator and event designer built right in, and both of them got married here themselves, so they know this property from every angle you can imagine. That kind of insider knowledge takes a lot of the guesswork out of turning a moody, architectural space into something that still feels warm and personal.

2320 Keller Bend Road, Knoxville

Guest Count:

Up to 300 guests

Amenities:

• Exclusive access for your entire wedding day.
• On-site event coordinator and event designer included in your package.
• Family-owned and operated so you know they really care.
• Heated and cooled indoor reception space for all weather conditions.

What to Know:

The Quarry’s marble walls and industrial architecture give the venue a strong visual identity, which is part of what makes it so memorable. It also means the space will influence your design more than a neutral venue would. Your florals, rentals, lighting, and color palette should work with the darker, moodier setting instead of fighting against it. If you love a dramatic, architectural backdrop, that’s a huge advantage. If you want a blank space you can completely transform, this may not be the best fit.

Ayoka Ranch

Ayoka Ranch is brand-spanking-new in Maryville, and it’s built specifically for wedding weekends. The property features two ponds and rolling hills leading up to a 10,000-square-foot timber-frame barn, with mountain views rising up behind an arbor and cross. You can mix and match, or skip entirely if you’d rather let the mountains speak for themselves.

This is the venue for couples who want something completely disconnected from their daily lives, a true destination wedding feeling, without the plane tickets. One honeymoon cabin is currently available on-site, and the venue plans to add a larger collection of timber-frame cabins. Until those are complete, most guests and wedding-party members will still need off-property accommodations and transportation. Golden hour here is the kind photographers dream about, with warm light spilling across the open field and the patio strung with bistro lights well into the night.

5921 Bingham Lane, Maryville

Guest Count:

What to Know:

Because Ayoka Ranch is new, some details may continue to change as the property develops. Confirm the current guest capacity, available lodging, completed amenities, and what will be ready by your wedding date before comparing it directly with more established venues.

Howe Farms

Howe Farms is a massive 330+-acre venue near Chattanooga, holding a nostalgic chapel, an industrial-style warehouse, charming barns, and open fields with waterfront views. Instead of booking one venue and adjusting your vision to fit it, you get to choose from several completely different spaces, making it wayyyyy easier to make your dream a reality.

The flexibility is what makes Howe Farms stand out from other East Tennessee wedding venues built around customization. That much flexibility can also mean more decisions. You’ll need to compare the capacity, architecture, lodging, rain plan, and guest flow of each individual Howe Farms venue rather than treating the property as one interchangeable option. Want a soft, reverent chapel wedding? You’ve got it. Prefer something with a little more edge? Also here. Something more rustic? You guessed it, that’s here too! Add in the golf carts to get around the property (which make for some really fun photos!), a vintage car for your send-off, on-site guest houses for your closest people, and a fireworks show if you want to end the night with a bang, literally.

Since the grounds are so large, ask how far guests will need to travel between your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and whether golf-cart transportation is included throughout the day.

Nichols Heir

Nichols Heir might be one of the best mountain views available at East Tennessee wedding venues. I’m talking stunning views that you have to see to believe. It’s built to handle bigger celebrations without losing that curated and intimate feeling. The Glass House gives you a 360-degree view of the surrounding Smokies, and full climate control for that unpredictable East Tennessee weather.

I love this venue for destination couples because they offer to help with off-property lodging, which is something I haven’t found at any other venue. They’ll help you find an Airbnb, a cabin, condos, hotels, and even a yurt if that’s your style.

The Trillium

The Trillium brings modern contemporary design to the Smoky Mountains, and you might not think those really go together, but they not only make it work, but they exceed all expectations. They have high ceilings and warm modern finishes, with natural light that stays consistent throughout the day. The bar area is one of my favorites with its dark and dramatic cabinetry and unobstructed mountain views right behind it. I also am obsessed with the black-and-white checkered dance floor, it makes for some really iconic dance party shots!

What makes this place feel so elevated is how well the indoor and outdoor spaces work together. Guests can move between them with ease, and there are never awkward transitions. The whole property photographs true-to-color instead of competing with the design you spent months curating.

Like Nichols Heir, The Trillium is dog-friendly, and you can have your pup with you from sunrise to sunset, which is kind of rare to find among East Tennessee venues at this level of luxury.
