Alchemy Cigar Lounge

Located in the Old City, Alchemy Cigar Lounge has a 1920s hunting lodge feel with leather seating, warm wood walls, and a walk-in humidor that adds so much personality to the space. This Knoxville bar feels like the kind of place where you should order something on the rocks. Old jazz plays low in the background, and the lighting is dim enough to feel private but never too dark for a camera.

If your idea of romance involves a good cigar, a strong old fashioned, quiet corners, and conversation that wanders wherever it wants, this is your spot. We can move between the main room and the quieter corner near the humidor, picking up a different mood in each one. Every surface in the room adds another layer, from the cedar to the leather to the low amber light, which gives us plenty to work with no matter where we wander.

Location: 119 S Central St, Knoxville

Overall Vibe: Moody, vintage, intimate, cinematic

Things to Know: This is an active cigar lounge, so you should be comfortable around cigar smoke before choosing it for your session. We’ll also need to contact the lounge ahead of time to ask permission, confirm any photography requirements, and plan around its regular hours.

Who it’s Perfect For: you love a quiet corner, a strong drink, and a little mystery in your photos, the kind of couple who’d rather whisper sweet nothings across a table than shout across a bar.

Five Thirty Lounge

If you want gorgeous city views and bright, natural light, Five Thirty Lounge is the perfect Knoxville bar for your engagement session. Wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass with the Smokies stretched out in the distance, a fire pit waits out on the patio with romantic string lights hanging overhead. The whole room glows right around sunset. It’s about as far from Alchemy’s cozy dark corners as you can get, all open sky instead of low light.

If the wind picks up or the sky doesn’t cooperate, the glass-walled interior gives us a backup option that still keeps the same view in frame, so the weather never has full control over the session even though part of the bar is outside. This is the spot for couples who want their photos to look like a night out in a big city.

Location: 530 S Gay St, Knoxville  (rooftop of the Hyatt Place)

Overall Vibe: Bright, golden, airy, modern, polished

Things to Know: The rooftop is seasonal and weather-dependent, so we’ll want a backup plan in case it’s closed the day of your session. Sunset slots book up fast, but I’ll help you navigate that so we get the best lighting possible.

Who it’s Perfect For: Couples who want big skyline views, golden light, and a session that feels like a night out in a much bigger city.

Cowboy Cantina

Cowboy Cantina is the most playful Knoxville bar on this list, especially if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to pull out your cowgirl boots. Located in the Old City, this Western-themed bar has bold decor, cowhide details, live music, and a party-ready atmosphere that feels completely different from a traditional engagement session location. It skips the polished feel entirely and goes straight for casual fun. Nobody comes here trying to look polished and put together, which is exactly the point! You can grab a spicy margarita, cozy up at the bar, listen to some country music, and try your hand at a line dance on the dance floor! 

Location: 110 S. Central Street, Downtown Knoxville

Overall Vibe: Western, relaxed, casual, playful

Things to Know: Check the schedule ahead of time if you want your session to land on a live music night. It leans loud and crowded later on, so an earlier time slot keeps the background from getting too busy in photos.

Who It’s Perfect For: This is the pick for couples who want their engagement photos to feel like a night out with their best friend instead of a formal portrait sitting. If your relationship runs more playful than polished, this is where that personality gets to show up in every frame.

The Read House Hotel

I know, I know. The Read House Hotel isn’t a Knoxville bar, but I couldn’t leave it off this list! It’s located in downtown Chattanooga, but the drive is so worth it if you want your engagement photos to feel like they were pulled from another era. The historic hotel has checkerboard floors, ornate ceilings, a grand lobby, and a Bar & Billiards Room with a speakeasy feel. Every corner brings a little 1920s drama, which is perfect for the right couple.

For couples who want something even more private, booking a room for the night could be a perfect option. Not only does it give us another unique backdrop, but it also extends your romantic date night!  We can shoot downstairs at the bar first, then move upstairs where it’s just the two of you and nobody else is in the frame. You get the glamour and history of the hotel and a quieter, more personal set of portraits in the same session.

Location: 107 W M.L.K. Blvd, Chattanooga

Overall Vibe: Historic, luxury, grand, glamorous

Things to Know: Professional photography must be arranged with the hotel in advance. Sessions can only be scheduled up to 30 days ahead, are subject to availability, and currently require a $250 fee plus tax. This one takes a little extra planning, but I’ll help you sort through the details before we make the drive.

Who It’s Perfect For: Couples up for a road trip and want your photos to feel like they were pulled from another decade entirely, maybe even worth turning into an overnight stay.
